The Protein Society of Thailand (PST) and the Chulabhorn Research Institute are hosting the 5^th Conference of the Asia Pacific Protein Association with the 12^th International Symposium of the Protein Society of Thailand in Bangsaen, Thailand, July 11-14, 2017, with local support from Burapha University. The meeting will be held in honor of Her Royal Highness Professor Princess Chulabhorn Mahidol on the occasion of her 60^th birthday. It will also honor Prof. Dr. Jisnuson Svasti, the president of the Protein Society of Thailand on the occasion of his 70^th year for his long service to protein science in Thailand and Asia.

The Asia Pacific Protein Association (APPA) was initiated to promote the dissemination of high quality protein research in the Asia Pacific region, in particular by organizing a triennial conference. The conference is intended to lead to communication, collaboration and cooperation in protein science in the Asia Pacific region and between the region and the rest of the world. The first meeting held in Yokohama, Japan in 2004 was entitled the 1^st Pacific�Rim International Conference on Protein Science (PRICPS2004). This was followed by meetings in Cairns, Australia in 2008, Shanghai, China in 2011, and JeJu, South Korea in 2014. This 5^th conference will be held in the beach community of Bangsaen, just south of Bangkok, Thailand, and about 45 min drive from Suvarnabhumi International Airport.

The objectives of the meeting are those shared by the APPA and the PST, communication of high quality research to encourage the development of protein science and encourage young protein scientists in the Asia Pacific region. It is also intended to provide opportunities for the development of collaborations between scientists in the region and top scientists from around the work in the area of protein research. We will have plenary sessions from leading protein scientists from around the world, parallel sessions with cutting edge protein research from the region and the world, and orals for young scientists and outstanding abstracts. We are also planning a young scientist program to be held directly before (July 10-11) to provide more opportunities for young scientists to interact with leading protein scientists and discuss their work and ideas.
