Congratulations to "Prof. Dr. Somchai Pinlaor" on receiving the 2025 Professor M.R. Jisnuson Svasti Outstanding Protein Scientist of Thailand Award. This Award recognizes his contributions to protein research on pathogenesis and biomarkers of diseases unique to Thailand.
Prof. Somchai Pinlaor is Professor and Senior Researcher in the Department of Parasitology, Faculty of Medicine, Khon Kaen University. He has worked on protein research in Thailand for 43 years and has pioneered in applying proteomic techniques to parasitology and pathology of diseases endemic to Thailand. Prof. Pinlaor is a pioneering biomedical scientist whose groundbreaking research in protein science has substantially advanced our understanding of host–pathogen interactions, inflammation-associated cholangiocarcinogenesis, and biomarker discovery. His primary research areas include the mechanism of liver fluke–associated carcinogenesis, oxidative stress-mediated DNA damage, immunopathology, and proteomics-based biomarker identification of neglected tropical diseases, e.g., cholangiocarcinoma, and chronic kidney disease. More recently, he has applied a personomic approach integrating proteomic, metabolomic, microbiome, and epigenomic data with clinical variables to develop personalized risk stratification and early diagnostic strategies for diseases prevalent in Southeast Asia. His research has resulted in the publication of approximately 165 papers, resulting in over 5000 citations and an h-index of 36 (SCOPUS), and several outstanding research awards.
The award and honorary lecture by the awardee will be presented at the 19th International Symposium of the Protein Society of Thailand to be held at Avani Khon Kaen Hotel & Convention Centre, Khon Kaen, Thailand on July 7-9, 2025.
